Overview
The team at Smiley’s Family Medicine Clinic provides a full range of services for your entire family.  The specialty of family medicine treats people of all ages, from newborns to the elderly.  Family medicine also includes care of patients through pregnancy and childbirth and the treatment of women’s health issues.  Along with our physicians, we use a team of educators, pharmacists and psychologists to teach patients how to prevent and manage disease.  When the need arises for specialty care, we help patients through the referral process and continue to manage their care as necessary.

Please refer to the clinic hours above for our scheduling office hours. To help us schedule the right amount of time for your visit, please let us know:

  • Which provider you want to see
  • Why you are being seen

If you need to be seen on a same day basis, please:

  • Call the clinic first
  • Tell us why you need to be seen

This will allow our clinic staff to make the best arrangements for you. If you need to cancel an office visit, please notify us as soon as possible.

Test Results
If your test results are not available on the same day the test is done, your doctor or nurse will call you with or send you the results. If you have not scheduled a follow-up office visit and you have not received your test results after two weeks, please call the clinic at 612-333-0770.

Prescription Refills
Please have your prescriptions refilled at your office visits, or if you are unable to wait until your next visit, please call your pharmacy. Please allow at 48-72 hours for refills.

Medical Records
If you need to transfer your records, a valid release of information form is required by our Medical Records Department before records can be copied. Please allow 10 business days for copying, if possible.

Financial Policy
 We accept most insurance plans. Check with your insurance provider to determine whether your care at Smiley's Clinic will be covered. If you have insurance:

  • Bring your insurance card with you to each visit.
  • Copayments are due at the time of service.

If you do not have insurance:
  • Call our patient financial counselor at 612-343-7144 to discuss payment options.
  • All patients are REQUIRED to make a payment on day of service.
  • All accounts with a balance due will receive a monthly statement.
  • A 20% discount will be given for every bill paid in full on the day of the visit.

Medical Emergencies/Hospital
 For a life threatening emergency:

  • Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room
  • Contact your clinic doctor as soon as possible

There is an emergency room entrance at University of Minnesota Medical Center located on Riverside Avenue. Please contact your clinic before going to the emergency room for any emergencies that are not life threatening.

After Hours Care
 For other urgent issues, call 612-333-0770 after hours to speak with our answering service.  They will pass your message on to an appropriate person or connect you with a nurse advice line.

Poisonings
 Do not call the clinic. In case of poisoning, call:

Interpreters
 Interpreters are available in a variety of languages. If requested, an interpreter will be scheduled when making the appointment.
