UMPhysicians Family Clinics Open QUITPLAN Tobacco Cessation Centers

Jan 06, 2006

University of Minnesota Physicians is pleased to announce two new QUITPLAN Tobacco Cessation Centers, to be located at Smiley's Family Medicine Clinic and Broadway Family Medicine Clinic in Minneapolis.

Free of charge to metro area residents, the QUITPLAN program is the result of a grant partnership between the University of Minnesota and Minnesota Partnership for Action against Tobacco (MPAAT). QUITPLAN services help people learn to quit smoking through a comprehensive and customized plan.
QUITPLAN services include:

  • Advice on breaking smoking habits
  • Assistance in developing an individualized plan to quit
  • Face-to-face professional counseling, in both one-on-one and group formats
  • Support and tools to help quit smoking

An open house at Smiley's Family Medicine Clinic will launch the first QUITPLAN Centers in the metro area on Thursday, January 26th from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Counselors will be on hand to answer questions, test breath carbon monoxide levels, and provide more information. The event will also include refreshments, games, and giveaways. All healthcare providers and community members are welcome.

Smokers using QUITPLAN services are seven times more likely to quit than those who go it alone. QUITPLAN Centers are located at Smiley's Family Medicine Clinic, 2615 E. Franklin Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55406, 612-333-0770 and Broadway Family Medicine Clinic, 1020 W. Broadway, Minneapolis, MN 55411, 612-302-8200. Clinic hours are Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call the clinic number above for more information or to schedule an appointment.
